Threshold, DePaul UK, Positive Steps Oldham, FCHO and Oldham Council, representing the Oldham Homelessness Forum, are participating in a fundraising activity to support the Inside Out project.
For the fourth year running representatives from agencies who work locally to prevent and relieve homelessness are sleeping outside on Thursday 20th March 2014 from 7.00pm to 7.00am at the Mahdlo Youth Zone. Mahdlo is the state-of-the-art facility in Oldham town centre for young people offering the opportunity to access a top quality, safe and affordable place to spend their leisure time.
Although we do not have a visible rough sleeping problem within Oldham, the council and partner agencies are committed to highlighting the plight of people who are homeless, or rough sleeping and raising awareness of the homelessness prevention initiatives that are available.
In 2013, 21 staff from a range of agencies working in Oldham undertook a sponsored sleep-out outside MAHDLO and raised nearly £3,000for much needed tenancy starter packs, a vital lifeline for those who have experienced homelessness and are taking up their first tenancy. The packs are produced by local charity Inside Out and comprise items to help with the transition to independent living including crockery, cutlery, mugs, pots/pans, cleaning materials, a kettle, light bulbs, bedding and towels. Given the current economic situation and the potential risks faced by young people as result of welfare benefit reform we want this year’s event to be bigger and better.
Any donations that you are able to make will be used to purchase tenancy starter packs to support young people when moving into their own tenancies.
Inside Out funded tenancy starter packs are a vital lifeline for those who have experienced homelessness and are moving to their first home.
Packs are organised by Inside Out volunteers. They include items to help with the transition to independent living such as crockery, cutlery, mugs, pots/pans, cleaning materials, kettle, light bulbs, bedding and towels. This can make a real difference between a first tenancy failing or succeeding.
