Story

Joanne’s running team - Emma, Lucy, Yvonne and David are running the great north half marathon this September to raise awareness of Lymphoma and Leukaemia and hope to raise funds for two departments at Addenbrookes Hospital.

All funds raised will be split amongst two departments that have had significant impact on our lives. One being for the Lymphoma Leukaemia fund on behalf of Dr George Follows (haematology) (9293) and the second is for the new chemotherapy/ haematology ward E10. (9086)

Joanne of Arrington was diagnosed with non hodgkinson lymphoma in 2012. She went through a course of treatment that June - October at Addenbrookes hospital. The treatment was cruel and was a tough six month battling tiredness, and dealing with the general side effects of chemotherapy. Luckily By the end of that year and the start of 2013 Joanne got the news she was in remission. EXCELLANT NEWS. Holiday to Tenerife was definitely what we all wanted.

Unfortunately two years later it had returned and showed evidence in her bone marrow. During 2015 she took a wait and watch approach to how the cancer was forming and affecting. Consequently this led to more chemotherapy throughout May - September 2016.

Although good signs were shown that the treatment was effective, It was then agreed that the best option going forward was to have a bone marrow/ stem cell transplant the latter part of 2016. In November 2016 Joanne spent just over three weeks in hospital being cared for by the lovely nurses of C10 and underwent the transplant

Now in 2017, Joanne is on the road to recovery and wants to participate in the Great North Half Marathon Run this September.

It’s no race for a time but a major challenge to motivate and focus a speedy recovery back to a normal living life. In doing so she hopes to also raise money for Addenbrookes as massive thank you for all their support and care over the past five years.

Every small donations will make a difference to somebody else’s life so we thank you all very much who has donated, please keep sharing the story. :)
