Story

Our beautiful, witty and Intelligent girl Sophie was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer at just aged 28 years in June 2015. She subsequently underwent numerous regimes of chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. Having only been married for a short time she never gave up hope of living a normal life again and hoped to start a family. She offered lots of support and advice to others in a similar situation, despite being  so young. Sadly in March 2017 she was re diagnosed with secondary spread, and was given a terminal diagnosis. She again underwent numerous cycles of aggressive treatment and spent much time in hospital due to the side effects and disease progression. She was referred to St Catherine’s Hospice; the community nursing team there became ‘our lifeline’, providing councelling, in house therapies, 24 hour advice , consultations and family support. Knowing that help and support were available 24/7 was such a relief to us and at times just being able to speak to someone who knew what we we going through was such comfort. Sadly Sophie deteriorated over the Christmas period and we were told in the new year that there was no further treatment available for her.  She was admitted to St Catherine’s Hospice for pain relief on 4th January 2018. We soon realised that we were unable to provide the necessary care at home that Sophie needed in her final days. The doctors, nurses and ancillary staff were all incredibly wonderful in the care they gave and sensitive to all her needs. Sophie passed away on 9th January 2018, in the loving arms of her husband and family. Following her death we have been given much support including spiritual help and counselling. Sophie was a wonderful, bubbly person , very much loved and is dreadfully missed. We will continue to raise money in memory of her and will be eternally grateful for the care St Catherine’s Hospice gave.

We have many events planned to help raise money these include the following:
