Story

THE CHALLENGE

Having rowed a pairs boat with my good friend Tom Salt in the Talisker Atlantic Ocean Race in 2013/14, I decided, in a moment of madness, to attempt an unsupported solo row of the Atlantic. At the time the challenge did not appear too daunting, but as the departure date draws closer, the realization of rowing solo and not part of the Atlantic Challenge race is slowly but surely sinking in!

My plan is to depart from Gran Canaria - Puerto Rico Marina, early morning on the 8th of January 2017, with the aim of reaching English Harbour, Antigua, some 70 plus days later having rowed 3000 miles - all subject to weather/ ocean conditions and God willing.

My intended shift pattern is to row 2 hours on, 2 hours off, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week until arriving into English Harbour. This may vary depending on sea state and the prevailing wind and weather.

Finally, I would like to ask each and every one of you visiting this website to donate what you can afford to support the MacMillan Cancer Support Charitable Foundation. Cancer touches almost every one of us at some time during our lives, and the support this charity offers to families struck down by cancer is second to none. If I maybe so bold, could I ask that Company donations be £300 (or more), which is the equivalent of £1.00 per ten miles rowed. Your money will make a big difference to people's lives.
