Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Rob Bowers, Russ Payne, Dan Britton, Adam Britton, Tom Rimmer and Simon Owen are attempting Ride London!
All six of us have either participated or threatened to participate in Ride London in the past. Riding for charity was always going to be the plan and the last month has thrown up a real reason to do so.
Team member Rob's wife Deb was taken to hospital on 31st January with a severe headache. A few frantic hours later she was in a coma in intensive care with Pneumococcal Meningitis and septicaemia. Like many people, we didn't know much about Meningitis. It was the sort of thing you read about and hope you and your family don't encounter. You never really consider that it can happen to you. Especially to a 32 year old healthy mum of two.
We were one of the lucky families. Three weeks later and Deb is now home and expected to make a full recovery. This is down to the fantastic treatment received at Southmead Hospital and the research that has been done to date to help fight Meningitis. When they say that Meningitis can kill within hours they are not wrong. The more that can be done to understand and prevent Meningitis the more lives can be saved.
Meningitis Now and their founder Steve Dayman (who was a great help and very supportive to Rob while Deb was ill) do a fantastic job of raising awareness and funding research projects as well as supporting families affected by Meningitis. They need our support and more importantly money.
So enough of the waffling. Please donate whatever you can to help. Even if it's purely driven by the satisfaction of thinking of us with severe saddle sore after 100 miles! Every little helps so please share this far and wide.
