We visited Phoenix House (the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre at Catterick Garrison) as research for our March 2016 performance of "Sunshine on Leith", a musical about two ex-squaddies who are learning to adapt to civilian life. We were inspired by the great work they do, so we arranged to collect funds for their charity each night after the show. But we felt that we wanted to do more... so the 1000 Mile Challenge was born.
