As most of you know, sponsoring me to ride my bike is like sponsoring me to eat chocolate or drink beer. It's not exactly a challenge for me!

However, this is for a very good cause - the British Heart Foundation.

Heart disease has affected many people in my life including some of those very close to me. I can well remember as a youngster lying awake at night as my dad suffered a heart attack and had been taken to hospital. He was lucky then and made a good recovery. In fact, arguably, I ride a bicycle because of that heart attack. Dad was take up regular exercise, He considered golf but luckily chose cycling! (The picture at the top is the head badge from his bicycle).

And you don't need to sponsor me for riding my bike. Those that know me well know some of my views on my fellow cyclists so you could sponsor me not to be grumpy as I see someone ride by on a saddle too low; or wearing a world champion jersey (or worse - USPS kit); or someone pretending to race and cutting me up on the inside (and then grinding to a halt as they attempt to climb the next hill). I will be sweetness and light the entire day and celebrate the enthusiasm of my fellow cyclists!

And if you do want to sponsor me for riding my bike, I am also doing a series of 10 mile time trials until the middle of July. My plan is to complete the course in 27 minutes. Now that would be a challenge! Typically I manage about half an hour.
