We provide everyone with somewhere to turn when someone dies

Story

Hello there

In October 2018 we will trek for 13 days, 200km to an altitude of 5544 meters. We are paying all our own costs for this challenge so all donations will go to Cruse Bereavement Care Devon.

Stephen has been a Cruse Bereavement volunteer for 8 years following his first wife Susan's death and is one of the 70 bereavement volunteers in Devon who last year put in an incredible 10,464 hours and helped 791 clients. In addition the helpline volunteers who offer initial and ongoing telephone support for people who do not wish for face to face support and the cost for this is £4000 per year (of which nearly half is to BT so wouldn't  it be nice if they waived this as a contribution to society!!)

Cruse Devon is "running on air" financially and will sadly go into the red this year. It has just
ONE administrator for the whole of Devon, and as a result of the current finances has had to let go the ONE part time assistant putting unsustainable pressures on. No one wants to think the worse that the Devon area may close, as it is the ONLY mainstream FREE service that helps people who have been bereaved in Devon. Referral numbers are on the increase as GP's and mental health bodies refer more and more and at the same time the funding we get is reduced.

You may have yourself lost someone and know just how devastating grief can be. Maybe you used the Cruse service or know someone who has? Cruse service in the UK means there is help for those unfortunate enough to be bereaved should they require it.

We have set ourselves an ambitious target which would make the absolute world of difference to Devon Cruse to SECURE FUNDING FOR THE HELPLINE and GET A PART TIME ASSISTANT back in place so any donations you could make would be fantastic

We will be taking a prayer pendant in remembrance of loved ones to leave at Base Camp, and so far we will have the following names written on it: Anna, Big Nick, David, George, Jackie, Joan, John C, John S, Lester, Penny, Sharon, Susan, Sylvia. If you would like to add a name, please let us know so we can add to the pendant.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and hope you may feel part of this trek with us!
