Story

I want to raise money for The Firefighters Charity and at the same time take the opportunity to tell my story.

The Firefighters Charity is currently in need of urgent donations to help them through the coronavirus pandemic period. I want to be there for them like they are there for me and I'm asking my friends, family and colleagues to step up and support this fantastic charity which is helping me and many others get through some extremely difficult times.

In January 2020 I was diagnosed with PTSD and in April 2020 I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer which has spread to my liver and lungs. Living with PSTD and cancer has had a devastating effect on me but I'm staying positive with the help of loved ones, friends, colleagues and the Charity.

I'm due to attend Harcombe House when coronavirus restrictions allow. And in the meantime the specialist staff have been there for me when I need them either online or over the phone.

My cancer treatment consists of both chemotherapy and immunotherapy and although I've got a long way to go I'm pleased to say that I'm responding well to the initial treatment! After only 5 (of 12) cycles of treatment my primary cancer (colon) has now gone and my secondary cancers in my liver and lungs have reduced by 20-30%. I'm feeling really positive about my future. I'm currently back at work full time supporting the communities of both Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

You never know what life has to throw at you and I want The Firefighters Charity to be there for you in the future just like it's here for me now.

The Phoenix Challenge is our second event but we're keeping this page going. This time we're doing the Brecon Beacons 10 Peaks in reverse. A new set of challengers will take part and use this page to fundraise. We hope to make the event an annual occurrence.

The name 'Phoenix Challenge' came from a two metre tall metal sculpture of a phoenix which was made by local blacksmith Steven Ellis Cooper. It was auctioned for our cause and raised £3500!

Please donate whatever you can.
