Story

This year I'm supporting Prostate Cancer UK, a charity that raises awareness and supports men with this awful disease.

I'm taking on several challenges this year and will be wearing my Prostate Cancer jersey at each of these to help raise awareness of the charity.  If you could support me with some sponsorship to help their cause that would be much appreciated!

Challenge 1:  A late addition to the series of challenges - I'm kicking off with the Regent's Park Half Marathon on 19th April.

Challenge 2: Outlaw Half Ironman, May 17th.  This is the standard half-ironman distance triathlon, with a 1.2 mile swim (in a horrible lake), followed by a 56 mile bike ride around Nottinghamshire and a 13.1 mile run at Holme Pierrepont.  While I have done this one before it has been two years since I did anything like this so I'm curious to see how it goes...

Challenge 3: Ride to Amsterdam (145 miles) as part of "Football to Amsterdam", June 5th - June 7th.  This event is organised by the charity and really helps them fundraise, with 350 riders taking part, all riding as teams representing their football clubs.  I'm not a big football fan but tagging along with the "Forest 2 Amsterdam" team, with the Forest fans by far and away the biggest team on the ride and also aiming to smash their fundraising targets.

**New** - My July challenge will be the Yorkshire Three Peaks... with a twist.  I plan to "run" the route, to the extent I can, with a target of getting under 7 hours.  I've walked it once and it took 9 hours so 7 will be a stretch!  24 miles with 1600m of climbing... I do have one trick up my sleeve though - I'll be tackling this with Chris McClymont, seasoned Ultra-Marathon runner and all round machine when it comes to this terrain.

Challenge 5: Ride London, a 100 mile bike ride taking in the 2012 Olympic course with some challenging hills on the route, on August 16th.  This is the final event for me of the "London Classics", along with the London Marathon and Swim Serpentine so am really looking forward to this one.

Challenge 6: The "Brutal" Half Ironman, September 12th.  This is similar to the Outlaw Half above, however it is set in Snowdonia which means the following.... the 1.2 mile swim in the lake will be absolutely freezing, and I don't cope particularly well with the cold.  The 56 mile bike ride will be ludicrously hilly and the best I can do for training where I live are some gentle slopes.  And finally, while the run begins with a scenic 5 miles around the lake, it is followed by an 8 mile round trip to the summit of Snowdon....  I'll be about 5-6 hours into the day before I get to the foot of the mountain for that final 8 miles so this is going to be a painful climb!

So please help me out with some fundraising for this fantastic charity and I'll do my best at these events to raise awareness for them along the way.
