SPARKLE - HELPING SPECIAL CHILDREN SHINE

Sparkle supports children and young people with a disability or developmental difficulty living in Newport, South Monmouthshire and South Torfaen and their families.  Sparkle is based at the Serennu Children’s Centre in Newport, South Wales and provides facilities and activities for recreation, leisure, sport and family engagement.

Please help us raise much needed funds to support Sparkle. Whether it be pennies or pounds we are super grateful and thank you for your help :-)

Further Information about SPARKLE.....................................

Sparkle started out with the aim of building and equipping what is now the Serennu Children’s Centre. Now that Serennu is open, we continue to support the ideal of a fully integrated service and are committed to providing leisure and information services for children and young people with complex and special needs and their families. We are a registered charity and continue to fundraise for a wide range of additional equipment and services at Serennu to make this integration a reality and to ensure that parents and young people have a voice within the services delivered from Serennu

We currently provide:

• a fantastic range of activities including swimming lessons, dance, & multi-skills

• regular clubs for all ages including Youth Club, Play Club, Stay & Play Club, Sibling Club and After School Club

• family activities including family swim sessions, family fun days and opportunities to view a film as a family at our fully-accessible on-site MediCinema

• access to clinical psychology services, family liaison support and a play worker

• access to parent support groups, run by parents for parents, including the Serennu Parents’ Group, Parents for Change and Newport Autism Support Group

Since Serennu opened its doors in April 2011, we have been successful in fundraising and securing grants and awards enabling us to deliver on many projects, including:

  • an outdoor multi-use games area
  • a sensory maze
  • a gazebo and outdoor playhouse
  • a specially designed disabled playground
  • purchase of specialist and play equipment identified by therapists
  • purchase of ICT and conference facility equipment

And we have also successfully secured grants enabling us to employ dedicated staff as follows:

Why do we still need your help?

Although we have come a long way, we can see so many ways where we can continue to improve the lives of the children attending Serennu and their families.

Current projects include building a sensory room for children with severe disability and the purchase of specialist equipment to ensure our children are always receiving state of the art treatment.

We would also like to provide more play therapy and support services for parents, run more clubs and classes for our children and, vitally, we need to continue to offer our existing services, so relied upon by families, into the future.  The services we provide are only made possible however by the generous support of organisations, groups and individuals so please do continue to support us in any way you can :-)
