Hike the Height of Everest - fight the spread of Covid -19 in Nepal. The Nestling Trust is helping the poorest communities, supports Covid -19 awareness programmes, funds medical supplies and PPE for Health Clinics, and soap for needy families.

Story

Why climb a 61 metre hill in Wiltshire 145 times in June?

This is why!

Time is running out to help stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus to vulnerable communities in Nepal.

This pandemic is an unprecedented global disaster. It has already overwhelmed many European countries,  and thousands of Nepali workers who have lost jobs are returning to their villages from Kathmandu, India, China, and the Gulf Countries.

Nepal reported 8 Covid-19 related deaths this week and 2099 identified cases. Given the speed with which the virus spreads, and the frail infrastructure of the country, Nepal could be facing a catastrophic loss of life, coupled with malnutrition and hunger due to loss of jobs and livelihoods.

Health posts in Nepal are doing all they can to help identify those who may have the virus but lack essential equipment. Some areas are several days journey away from any hospital or doctor. Isolation areas are being prepared but are also woefully short of equipment such as oxygen and even running water.

The Nestling Trust, a voluntary UK Charity, is providing urgent medical supplies such as protective gloves, aprons, and masks to 5 Health Posts in vulnerable village areas, and has already contributed £4500 for this purpose.  Each area has a current population of approximately 6000 people. Health Post nurses are teaching villagers the essential measures of self-distancing and effective handwashing and provide soap, lentils and rice for the needy.

It is vital that any cases are identified as swiftly as possible. The Nestling Trust, with its partner NGO in Nepal, is in a position to help, but desperately needs funds.

The Nestling Trust will provide:

1. Vital protective medical supplies for Health Posts.

2. Equipment for isolation areas being prepared for those with symptoms, such as blood pressure monitors, infrared thermometers, personal hygiene equipment, tapped buckets, oxygen

3. Soap, rice, and lentils for needy families.

Help is needed now! Could you help to make a difference and save lives? Every penny donated to the Nestling Trust is spent directly on the projects.

We work in coordination with Nepal Ministry of Health, local NGO's and Community Development Groups, to establish health clinics, where no medical facility exists, in the remote villages of Nepal. The clinics provide health care and health education. We also support a Home for destitute children.
