Story

We did it!!!

What an absolutely amazing experience, one I’ll remember all my life. It was exhilarating, exciting, exhausting, empowering, emotional and enthralling. What a fabulous experience.  I never imagined I’d ever again reach the summit of Mount Snowdon - but friendship, cooperation, grit, enthusiasm and determination led to Sue’s Summiteers achieving their goal.  Not only did they push, lift and pull me to the top but they then lifted and carried me to the very peak - the trig point, at which time a number of us could not hold back the tears. Other climbers gave us a huge cheer and we took in the breathtaking views as the tears fell. It’s quite a challenge to find the words which effectively convey my emotions and my gratitude.  I know the team were utterly exhausted (and sore) but I think that every single one would say that it was worth it. Joining in the celebrations at the after climb celebration put the icing on the cake. Who would believe that everyone there, dancing and cheering, had climbed the highest peak in England and Wales and all in aid of this wonderful charity - The Back Up Trust? Sue’s Summiteers got me back up to the top and the gains are immeasurable. A heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to this charity.  Onwards and upwards! I’ll always remember.

! I’m very proud to say that we’ve  just hit our target of £2000.  How fantastic is that? Anything above this is a massive bonus! What a wonderful achievement. I’m absolutely delighted and very proud of our team.  Let’s see if we can smash this target and keep on climbing, onwards and upwards in more ways than one  😃🤩🥳🥰.  Come on Sue’s Summiteers!

It took just a split second in January 2015 to change my whole life. Until then I’d been fit and healthy, happily married with grown up children and I worked full time. That day, whilst jogging, I heard a loud crack and the next thing I was aware of was coming to to find myself pinned to the ground, unable to free myself. I was later told that a tree trunk had fallen, striking me on the head. The  impact had broken my back, dislocated my spine and compressed my spinal cord. I left hospital 4 months later attempting to come to terms with life as a paraplegic. The BackUp Trust at that time were a lifeline. Through the charity's support and the courses offered I began to understand and truly believe that I could still achieve so many things. This is a charity I hold close to my heart and I hope that you will consider supporting Sue’s Summiteers, the crazy team who have agreed to work together and push me to the summit of Mount Snowdon on the 22nd June 2019. I know it’s a bit out there, a bit insane, but it’s a fabulous cause which benefits so many spinal cord injured people and their families. Please help Sue’s Summiteers.

The Snowdon Push is Back Ups toughest, yet most exhilarating fundraising event and tests each and every member to the max.Its an amazing experience that brings together people from all walks of life to work as a team and reach one of the highest points in the British Isles, all whilst raising funds for people with a spinal cord injury and their families. The Push involves teams of between 10 and 16 people aiming to conquer the highest mountain in England and Wales, Mount Snowdon, which is over 3,500 ft high. One member of each team must be a wheelchair user, which means pushing, pulling, climbing and wheeling as a team to reach the summit and back down again, covering approximately eight miles of steep, mixed surfaced terrain. The money will be used to help transform the lives of people affected by spinal cord injury across the UK.
