We support people with Spinal Cord Injury to help them live full, independent lives

Story

The National Charity Aspire raise money to
support people with spinal cord injury, a cause
very close to my heart.

In 2012 I was told I would be in a wheelchair for
the rest of my life as my spinal cord was badly
squashedI couldn’t walk 100 yards without
tears streaming down my face, it was agony.

Read my story from last year here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/suzanne-taylor-aspirechannelswim2017 or go to my blog 'It's all about my back problems 🙃

I’M INCREDIBLY PROUD TO SAY... We (as without
all you fabulous supporters it would never have
happened) were the TOP 2017 FUNDRAISERS in the
whole of the country for the Aspire Channel Challenge
swim 2017 raising £4,348...isn’t that just awesome!!

  • I swam 44 miles, the distance across the channel to France, had a little French themed pool side party and then swam the 22 miles back again, doubling the miles of the challenge! Have a look here at the blog post Aspire has just published about it. The header picture is from the Mary Ray obedience training day fundraising event https://aspirechannelswim.co.uk/blog/how-suzanne-conquered-the-channel-and-became-2017s-top-fundraiser-1
  • Plus my health and fund-raising story is the feature article in the Aspire Welcome leaflet to help inspire and motivate those doing the 2018 Channel Challenge.
  • Also, I’ve just done an interview with the local newspaper for an article in their health section...oh my days, I am so proud and thankful I’m bursting! If I can inspire some more people this year I will be soooooo happy.

I must say THANK YOU to absolutely everyone who delved in to their pockets and donated in 2017, I had such a fun time with all the events, they got me out of the 4 walls I was stuck in.

I was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of
everyone who supported me throughout the challenge,
whether they donated money, prizes for my events,
wrote amazing comments encouraging and motivating
me or their time in helping me through some very dark
and tough times with my health. A million thank you's to
you all ❤️

I have come a long way since writing the story in the
links above, swimming is now part of my life to keep my
paraspinal and core muscles strong enough to support
my vertabrae so I’m doing it all again this year and
taking on the 2018 Aspire Channel Swim.

I’ll be swimming the 22 miles distance of the English
Channel (well probably 44 miles again) over 12 weeks to
raise money for the National Charity Aspire. I’ll be asking
again for donations, sponsorship or prizes for some of
the events I’ll be running. I have no idea what events yet
but if you have any great ideas just let me know.

My partner John Taylor won’t be swimming with me this year at Woodlands Leisure pool in Upper Sheringham, north Norfolk because of a long standing shoulder injury aggravated by him swimming the 22 miles with me in 2017. So I am actively looking for anyone who fancies, or needs, a little challenge in their life and can swim. You’ll help raise a little money, improve your fitness in the water and have a great time. It was just an amazing elated feeling when I finished the swim knowing that a number of people would be helped with the money we had raised.

If you’re interested and would like to join in with the
challenge swimming in your pool, post me a message
I have a little list of 6 or 7 people who have already said
they’re interestedwhich is fantastic but I’d like to get to 10.

Every eight hours someone is paralysed by a Spinal
Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment,
advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured
people need to live their lives independently. I know
what its like to be trapped indoors with someone doing
everything for you. This is a big challenge, but the more
I raise, the more of a difference I'll make, so please be
generous!

  • If you feel you can sponsor me, donate or
  • support me in whatever way you can I would
  • be so grateful.
Little donations grow into bigger ones when they have
others to be with 😁
22 miles is a long way. I need to do at least 2 miles per
week (or 4 if I double up again). This will give me a little
wriggle time in case any health issues crop up.

You can donate any amount from £2 upwards by
clicking on the Donate button at the top right of this
page and don't forget to add Gift Aid if you are a tax payer.

You can also donate by Text if you prefer by texting
SUZT56 and either £1, £2, £3, £4 ,£5 or £10 to 70070

  • Please feel free to share this page if you know of anyone who would support me, donate money or give prizes for future events.
Not long to go, it all starts on 10th September through
to 3rd December.
