Story
Over the next 7 weeks, members of Y Sqn, The Royal Wessex Yeomanry, will virtually complete the distance from our Army Reserve Centre in Swindon to El-Alamein, the place of one of our most famous tank battles from WW2. By completing runs, tabs and hikes from their own homes members will collectively try and complete the 3410 km (2119 miles) whilst fundraising money for the fantastic Brighter Futures in Swindon. We will be posting regular updates of our progress as the weeks go by on this page so please check-in to see how we are doing.
El-Alamein is chosen as our destination due to it being our predecessor squadron, The Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry's World War 2 Battle Honour. With this being the 75th anniversary year we remember those on the front line then, as well as helping those on the front line today within the NHS. You can read more about the battle of El-Alamein at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Battle_of_El_Alamein.
Brighter Futures is the charity for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which includes Great Western Hospital and community health sites in Swindon. Through your donations, they help fund that extra special level of care in order to make a real difference to patients, their families and the staff who treat them, above what the NHS is able to provide. They improve the hospital environment, fund groundbreaking research, support the development and training of hospital staff and provide state-of-the-art equipment. All things that are much needed at this time.
