Story

Hi!

In February 2019, I will be joining the expedition team of Her Planet Earth to trek across the world's largest cave, Son Doong, in the heart of Central Vietnam.

This is an expedition unlike any other, less people have seen the inside of the Son Doong Cave than have stood on the summit of Mount Everest!

The Son Doong cave is considered a level 6 expedition – the highest level of difficulty and physical fitness – but I want to prove to everyone that nothing can stop you if you put your heart and mind to it!

The objective of the expedition is to raise awareness & funds for underprivileged women affected by climate change. Due to stereotyped, gender-defined roles in society, Vietnamese women are amongst those most likely to carry the heaviest burdens and suffer from environmental degradation. Every dollar raised will go directly to UN Women Vietnam, and will fund projects for the advancement and economic empowerment of women in the rural areas of Vietnam.

In other words, you and I will play a key role in ensuring these Vietnamese women have access to the same basic rights you and I enjoy and sometimes take for granted.

HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND HOW EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS

$42 a year helps a female farmer adapt her agricultural production into a climate-resilient one through technical training, on-field guidance, advanced farming tools & technologies, access to knowledge & services on climate-smart agriculture, and the establishment of a network of cooperatives among female farmers for the exchange of innovative ideas on how farm smarter and better.

$49 a year helps a landless woman transition from a day labourer to a disaster-resilient livlihood through training on new skills (financial literacy, business development, leadership), grants to start up their own sustainable businesses, gain access to women's groups among farmers that share resources (such as microloans for income-generating activities, and access to emergency funds for disaster-affected families).

$126 gives a female farmer a chance to start adapting her agricultural production and make it climate-smart in 3 years.

$147 gives a landless woman a chance to move away from a seasonal job frequently affected by disasters and build a new sustainable livelihood - all within 3 years.

Please note that the cost of this expedition is fully self-funded and every cent you donate will go directly to support the marginalized Vietnamese women via UN Women Vietnam.

I would hugely appreciate your support and all donations big or small are gratefully received.

Kindly note: the actual entity collecting the money is UN Women Australia, because UN Women Vietnam is not able to set up a Just Giving account on this website, however the funds will be funnelled to UN Women Vietnam after the campaign.
