Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The three men from Crowborough will be taking on the challenge of riding a tandem bike from Big Ben in London to the Eiffel Tower in Paris all for Cancer Research on 23rd July.

Lawrence McCormack, Philip Lear and James Bull all have their own reasons for attempting the 250 mile trek, which was devised in 2014 whilst Lawrence was recovering from his own treatment of throat cancer after being diagnosed in 2013. During that same period Philip’s mother (who lives in France) was also diagnosed and being treated for lung cancer. James has already done the ride to Paris before for the Royal Marsden Hospital on a conventional bike and is thrilled by the challenge of riding a tandem bike to Paris with both Lawrence and Philip for such an worthwhile and important cause.

Wealden Cycles based in Crowborough are fully supporting the “Tandem Trek”. The shop, based in Park Road, Crowborough are providing the tandem and a support vehicle that the third rider will drive and during the four day challenge the three riders will change positions to ensure the tandem maximizes the distance covered.

The trek will start at Big Ben on 23rd July with Cancer Research ever present throughout the journey. The riders will make their way to Dover taking any donations on the way, however they will make a stop at the Kent Oncology Centre in Maidstone to give a thank you gift for what they did to help Lawrence through his treatment. The team will cross on a ferry arriving at Calais to continue the adventure into Paris. Before arriving at the Eiffel Tower the team will go to the Institut Gustave Roussy in Paris where Philip’s mother was treated to also give them a thank you gift.

The three men who met at the Taekwon-Do class in Crowborough are determined to raise £20,000 with proceeds being split between Cancer Research and the Institut Gustave Roussy. They are currently looking for sponsors who wish to support this event that will be covered by both local and national press in England and France. Any amount of money from individual donations will help towards the big total. Thank you for your support.
