Story
I lost my Dad to motor neurone disease in 2015.
MND is a rapidly progressive disease, which affects the nerves controlling the body’s muscles, leaving people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe. The average life expectancy from diagnosis is just 2 years. There is no cure.
For 2 years my Dad bravely fought this cruel disease. He showed me how to find positivity and hope in a situation where I struggled to see any. He was the most wonderful, caring, clever and funny father. I miss him everyday.
During this difficult time, the support MNDA provided to our family was invaluable. Every pound raised by this charity is spent carefully so that those affected by MND get the help they need, both now and in the future. The money raised is also SO IMPORTANT in funding research into this devastating disease, so that a cure can one day be found.
To show my support for this incredibly important charity, I’ve decided to run in the Royal Parks Half Marathon this year. For someone who has always hated running, this is not my idea of a fun day out! Any donation you can make, however big or small, would mean so much to me. Here are just a few examples of what MNDA can do with money raised.
- £10 provides an information pack for a newly diagnosed person with MND.
- £30 buys an adapted cutlery set to help someone with MND continue to feed themselves.
- £100 funds laboratory equipment for two days' vital research into finding out the causes of MND.
