Story
I’m not only doing this to raise money for charity, but also as a personal challenge. Those of you that know me, know that I’m not exactly the fittest of people - so I’m looking forward to training and seeing if I can actually run most of this!!
Now to the real reasons behind WHY I wanted to do this....
I’ve been through my own personal little issue with cervical cancer, and although it’s not there anymore (fingers crossed), I’m still having regular check ups - the next one being in April. But without cancer research, the NHS wouldn’t have improved so much over the years to know exactly what the early symptoms are. I’m very lucky to have had it detected at my very first smear almost 2 years ago. 2 operations later, and I’m cancer free! It was pretty easy really.
Then, as you all know, I lost my amazing Uncle Phil to undetected Bladder / secondary Liver cancer earlier this year. Everybody that knows me, knows how much that man means to me. So ultimately, I’m doing this for him! If anybody can give me the strength to do this, it’s most definitely Uncle Phil as he was the strongest, most determined man I’ve ever met. He battled prostate cancer for years, along with 2 of my other Uncles, and he just got on with things. Never once complained. Even towards the end of his life, he didn’t complain half as much as I would’ve!
He’ll think that me running this (or attempting to run) will be hilarious! I know he’ll love that I’m helping to raise a bit of cash and awareness, and if I give him a laugh in the process, then why the hell not!! ‘Happy Dayz’
Love you to infinity & beyond Uncle Phil - let’s do this!!!!
