Story
We are taking part in the CaptainTom100 Challenge by walking 100 miles! A team of 10, including our President, will walk the 10 miles between our two sites in Kingston and Leatherhead on Monday 3rd May.
Last year, when vulnerable members of society needed charities the most, Captain Tom stepped up to help, taking on his famous walk to fundraise and inspiring millions to donate. We will be celebrating the extraordinary spirit of Captain Tom, whilst raising money for Dyscover.
Dyscover provides long-term support and opportunities to people with aphasia and their families.
Aphasia is a neurological condition which affects a person’s ability to find words, construct sentences and to understand language, both spoken and written. Aphasia is isolating, frustrating and is usually acquired without warning, most often through stroke but can also be caused by brain injury or associated with a rare dementia.
For 27 years, Dyscover has been working to inform, support and empower people with aphasia, to manage their communication disability and to re-engage with life. We create an aphasia-friendly community in which people feel included, valued and have a sense of purpose.
We rely on fundraising income to provide our crucial support services, including our innovative 'Dyscover at Home' online service which we developed during lockdown. This has enabled us to continue supporting our existing members but also to reach even more people with aphasia who live further away.
Our fundraising efforts have been severely impacted over the last 12 months and therefore any support that you can give us will help us to continue supporting more people with aphasia.
Please do support us if you can!
Thank you!
