We help people with a learning disability to live their lives as they choose.

Story

The Marathon des Sables is a six-day, 156 miles (251km) ultra marathon, which is the equivalent of six regular marathons.

The longest single stage is around  51 miles long... It gets worse - the race requires you to be self-sufficient; to carry with you everything that you need to survive for the race, approximately 12kg. You are given a place in a tent to sleep at night, but any other equipment and food must be carried. All this in one of the world’s most inhospitable climates known to man, the blazing sun of the Sahara Desert.

With temperatures up to 50 degrees we will have to ration our water and manage our food intake, whilst navigating with a compass and trying not to get lost.

WHY?! The reason we're doing this, is simply to raise as much money as possible for Mencap. Our philosophy is the harder the challenge, the more likely people are to donate.

So if you have completed a marathon yourself or have tried even walking with a 15kg bag before and thought it rather heavy. Please think of us running through the sand dunes in a few weeks and dig deep.

Thanks,

James and Max
