We help blind and partially sighted people to break down the barriers of sight loss

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit mine & Holly’s JustGiving page.

Firstly we would like to give thanks to the ROYAL NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF BLINDNESS for accepting us and allowing us to participate in the London Marathon 2020 on they’re behalf. Every day 250 people start to lose their sight. RNIB help people who have lost their sight to find their lives again. They provide emotional support, expert advice and practical products - enabling people to live independently and enjoy everyday life.

As many of you know our little boy Oscar who turns 5 in February has had a rollercoaster start to life in terms of battles & treatments. He has been diagnosed with Epilepsy, Autism & Speech Delay.

Oscar constantly defies the odds surprising doctors & even us on a daily basis with his strength and amazing character. He is the heart & soul of our little family, we are both extremely proud of him. Anyone who meets him will tell you what an extraordinary young man he is.

In October this year we visited Great Ormond Street Hospital for a routine eye appointment only to find out the Oscar has a disease called Best Eye Disease. (Vitelliform Macular Degenerstion) This came as a huge shock to us and our family.

Best disease affects the macula which is part of your retina at the back of your eye which you use when reading, writing or watching TV. There is no current treatment for Best disease although research is on-going in the area of gene therapy which may lead to a treatment in the future. As is stands periodically over time Oscar vision will deteriorate resulting in a loss of sight.

If anyone can help my wife and I raise money to fund treatments & ultimately help other children/adults future...it would mean the world to us and our little boy Oscar.

Oscar says hi 😊
