Fundraising for Martin House Hospice for Children and Young People
Story
My name is Stacey, I am a 34-year-old mum of 2, and wife to Adam. 9 years ago, I lost my cousin & godson Alex when he was only 15 weeks old. My family and I have missed out on being able to see the amazing little boy he would have grown up to be.
Alex was born 6 weeks early due to a ruptured placenta, which led to several complications impacting his health. In the short 15 weeks we got to spend with Alex, Martin House Children's Hospice cared for not only Alex but also our family. Martin House are a fantastic charity who have supported hundreds & thousands of children with life limiting conditions, and their families.
It costs Martin House £22,000 per day to operate and do the amazing work they do for families, like they did for mine. Ever since Alex passed away in 2010 we have been raising money for Martin House. And this year would have been Alex’s 9th birthday, so I am making it my MISSION to raise enough money to run Martin House for a day!
I have, in collaboration with my husband, committed to running 20 marathons between us, that's 524 miles which is almost the length of the country, and that’s not including our training! Starting in November 2019 we will be running a number of organised events, some routes of our own, finishing on the August bank holiday in 2020 where we will start our final marathon, The Alex Clayton Memorial Marathon, departing from Martin House in Wetherby and finishing at our families annual fundraising event in Bradford in time to join in the fun!
