Story

For the Tenth Anniversary of the TENTENTEN we are hoping to raise an apt £10k for Weston Park Hospital to aid comfort and enhancements to the Brachytherapy suites where patients are often in isolation for 24 hours.

The event has supported Weston Park Cancer hospital since the beginning, and in total we have raised in excess of £50,000.

Please do consider a donation or your starting your own fundraising page linked to the event to help us achieve our target!

Weston Park Cancer Centre delivers
cutting-edge treatment techniques, such as internal radiotherapy, giving local
patients the best possible chance of beating their cancer.

Due to the nature of the treatment, whilst
receiving internal radiotherapy patients need to be kept in isolation, unable
to have visitors or leave the confines of their treatment room.

In some cases patients receiving internal
radiotherapy must lie completely still & flat within the isolation room,
unable to move for the duration of their treatment. The treatment process can
take up to 24 hours.

Research has shown that our surroundings have a
powerful influence on how we feel; this is especially true for patients who are
treated in total isolation. The existing internal radiotherapy suite at Weston
Park Hospital has not been updated or modernised for many years.

We need your help to improve patient comfort, prevent isolation and
greatly enhance the experience for brave patients undergoing internal
radiotherapy in isolation.

The NHS
recognise their obligation to improve these facilities and a redevelopment plan
is scheduled to upgrade the 4 rooms within the treatment suite to an improved
functional standard.  Weston Park Cancer
Charity believes that patients going through this difficult treatment procedure
deserve the very best facilities.

We are raising
funds to greatly enhance the NHS provision, to improve patient comfort and
well-being and better combat the loneliness and anxiety that patients can
experience whilst receiving radiotherapy treatment in isolation.

With your help
we want to provide:

  • Improved
entertainment facilities within the treatment rooms- T.Vs, IPads and ultra-fast
fibre broadband so patients can stream films and connect with loved ones via
    video calling
  • Bright,
non-clinical bedding & soft furnishings to brighten up the rooms
  •  Improved furniture to make the rooms feel more
    comfortable for patients
  • Inspiring
artwork to create a more engaging environment
  • LED
dimmable lighting, operated by patient-held remote control, in place of the
stark florescent lighting- creating a softer mood and aiding patient
    relaxation.

You can
help us ensure that patients can be looked after in an enhanced, modern
environment which goes beyond the treatment to provide comfort and support to
cancer patients at a time they need it most.
