Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Four intrepid aquanauts, two who are visually impaired and their two guides, are to take part in the Great North Swim at Lake Windermere in aid of Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind.

Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind is a thriving, growing and much needed source of support for people with visual impairments in Coventry and the surrounding areas. The charity is just eight years old and in that time has grown from nothing to now supporting around 150 people a week regularly plus many more who drop in for advice and support. These are exciting times for CRCB: we are just about to buy the premises we have rented for the last 8 years, plus an adjacent former care home in order to expand.
Our minibus service brings people in from all the city to the Centre where we offer a wide range of opportunities to learn new skills, make new friends and take part in activities that may otherwise be inaccessible.  Above all our mission is to break the social isolation that sight loss often leads to.
For this challenge, Jenny, Heather, Ali R and Ali V will take part in the Great North Swim, a mile in the open water of Lake Windermere. Heather and Ali V are both visually impaired and have never swum so far in open water before. Their  guides, sisters Jenny and Ali R, have both previously taken part in the Great North Swim. Ali V is a service user and volunteer at the Resource Centre, Heather is a member of staff, Jenny volunteers at CRCB and Ali R is a regular visitor.

About the charity

We provide practical, emotional and social support to help visually impaired adults from across Coventry cope with sight loss. Our aim is to help people live as fully and independently as possible and to reduce the often profound isolation that sight loss causes.
