Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Tess Cadman and I am Chairman of the South West Area Federation of Young Farmers, which incorporates Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire County Federations.

Every year we hold our annual Competitions Weekend which this year will be in Newquay between 14th- 16th March. This brings together the six counties to compete against each other as well as socialise, with around 1800 members in attendance.

The position of Chairman is a one year role and one which I feel very honoured and privileged to be undertaking. As this is a position which I will not find myself in again I want to use it to raise money which will benefit all six counties. It is for this reason that I have decided to set myself a challenge incorporating and benefiting the whole area.

Despite being a Young Farmer for over 9 years I do not come from a farming background and have never driven a tractor, therefore I will be travelling to Newquay in a Claas, kindly donated by Hamblys, via all six County Offices, starting on Monday 10th March with my own Office at Kingston Maurward College in Dorset. This will take me on a 315 mile trip which will last 3 days, arriving in Newquay on Wednesday 12th March in time to start the weekend.

I have chosen to raise money for The Farming Community Network for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they support the whole area, providing help with business issues such as finances, family issues such as retirement, succession and relationship break-ups, health issues such as depression, suicidal feelings and isolation and also with farm issues such as animal welfare and disease.

I feel this is particularly relevant at the moment with the flooding disasters which the area are currently experiencing. They are also linked to the new campaign from National YFC Chairman, Claire Worden, Rural+ which is focusing on rural isolation and supporting young people with mental health issues. You can find out more information about this campaign by visiting http://www.nfyfc.org.uk/ruralplus.
