Story
Hey there good lookin',
Thanks for taking the time to visit The Thamesis Hafla's JustGiving page. We would love to see you at The Grafton on 6 December!
Every penny we raise from ticket sales will go to support the wonderful and vital work done by the good folks at REFUGE. Without them, thousands of abused women and children across the UK would have literally nowhere to go for help.
Thanks to Government cut backs, REFUGE's already difficult job is becoming almost impossible. Voluntary donations have failed to materialise to fill in the hole left by the absence of state funding.
This is not just because we're all feeling the pinch at the moment -- battered women and abused children just don't get us reaching for our wallets the way other -- dare we say more media-friendly? --charities do. Don't believe us? Then consider this: in 2009 The Donkey Sanctuary received £20 million in voluntary donations. REFUGE received £1.7 million.
Don't get us wrong. We love donkeys. We just think that perhaps it's time to spread that love around.
How much you donate is up to you, but we politely suggest that £7 sounds like a bit of a bargain for an evening of fantastic entertainment from some of London's finest Oriental and Tribal belly dancers, in the lovely surrounds of a historic and recently refurbished pub. (Did we mention that The Grafton has an excellent tap selection? 'Cause they do.)
Even if you can't make it to Thamesis, REFUGE can put your cash to good use this Christmas. But you really should come along, you know. It's a well-known fact that the dancers perform better when there are gorgeous mugs like yours in the audience.
Lots of love,
Clare and Christina
