We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

Story

Lauren and Tim will be walking more than a marathon a day to complete the Thames Path Challenge, raising vital funds for RNLI Portishead, who’s lifesaving shop was forced to close during the Summer due to lockdown.

Lauren, who volunteers at the RNLI shop, and Tim, who both live in Portishead, will be taking up the challenge of walking the entire length of the River Thames in record time. They will start their walk at the source of the Thames in Kemble and follow it until the Thames Barrier in London. The challenge will start on Friday 25th September and, by walking more than a marathon distance of 42km a day, will finish on Thursday 1st October. They are completing this grueling endurance event to raise money for RNLI Portishead and hope to raise the equivalent that the shop would make in a week.

Both Lauren and Tim are open water swimmers and swim locally in the Bristol Channel. They, along with a lovely community of swimmers, pay close attention to detail when planning their swims as they are very aware of how dangerous the waters around Bristol can be. Even so, they know that should the worst happen, the volunteers at RNLI Portishead will be there to help them out. This is why they are so keen to raise money for the station.

Too many people are still drowning. More than ever we need the RNLI’s help. As a charity, the RNLI depends on our donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe. RNLI lifesavers are our lifeline. They’re the lifeboat crews who provide 24-hour search and rescue right around the UK and Ireland. The lifeguards keeping watch on 240 of the busiest beaches in the UK and Channel Islands. And the RNLI safety teams and educators working tirelessly to stop people getting into trouble in the first place.Thank you.
