Story
Our Dad, Philip Hope-Cobbold, died last year in July 2020. He was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer in June. After the diagnosis his health deteriorated quickly, but we were able to spend a lot of time with him during his final few weeks. He will be greatly missed by us and all who new him, I’m sure his wicked (unusual!) sense of humour will be missing from all the parties and gatherings he loved to be part of.
In memory of him and to raise money for one of his supported charities, I have signed up for a ‘Trail Marathon’ this coming June.
In keeping with his county of birth and home, and in consideration of our family history, I will be running the ‘Orwell Challenge’. The run begins in Ipswich and follows the river Orwell down to Felixstowe, then back through farmland to Ipswich. The majority of the run is off road.
To make it a little more challenging I will be running in ‘Barefoot’ shoes that have no cushioning in the soles and 0 drop. (If ‘Barefoot’ running is of interest to you, call me and i’ll bore you with all the details).
The Run starts at 7am on Sunday 27th June 2021. I am aiming to complete in under 5 hours, though this is my first marathon (and possibly my last!).
I will be raising money for St Elizabeth Hospice Ipswich, where Dad spent his last couple of weeks. They provide palliative care for people living with progressive and life-limiting illnesses. They are an independent charity who provide their services free of charge and rely heavily on support from donation
Thank you so much for your support and generosity, and I look forward to seeing you very soon.
