How to fundraise
We explain how you can get started with online fundraising
You are here because you want to help change lives by raising money for a cause you care about. Where to begin? If you haven’t raised money before it might seem difficult or the process might be intimidating to you. However, it is so easy to create a page and help make a difference by asking your friends, family and community to donate to support you and the Charity you care about. Here’s how to get going:
Pick a cause you want to support
Choose a cause to support: there are thousands to choose from, big or small, and all are working hard to try and make the world a better place. Choose one that is close to your heart, your supporters will be able to engage with your appeal most when they know it is something that means a lot to you, and you will find it easier to communicate why they should help.
Taking part in an event or just trying to do something good?
Are you going to fundraise as part of an event, a marathon or cycling race for example, or just as a way of saying “thanks” to a charity that has helped you or a loved one? Don’t feel like you need to do something in order to set up a Fundraising Page, but it is also a great opportunity to challenge yourself as part of an organised event or individually.
Create a page
It’s that simple. Choose your Charity, select whether you are taking part in an organised event or activity, then start building your page. Write your story, add a photo, set the target you want to raise. For a more detailed insight into a perfect page, see our guide here.
Spread the word
People need to know about your Page in order to donate to it, so start telling everyone you know about what you are doing. JustGiving makes it simple to share your page directly to social media and via email. Don’t be embarrassed to share often, you are trying to help change lives so sharing and appealing for help is not going to be frowned upon.
Think outside the box
Contact your local newspaper to let them know what you are doing, they love to share stories of people from the community doing something for charity. Think about other ways you can inspire those around you who you may not know to donate as well, perhaps by putting up posters or by hosting an event in a local pub or community centre to spread the word.
Pat yourself on the back
Fundraising is an incredibly rewarding experience, and with a little bit of effort you can make a lot of difference to important causes that rely on the support of the community.
