Wealdway Ultra - Gravesend to Eastbourne · 18 December 2020

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

My name is Adam and I've set up this page to raise funds for Parkinsons UK. Parkinson has been part of my family's lives since I can remember; we lost my grandmother (paternal) to the disease in 2005 and my grandfather (maternal) is currently fighting it.

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. The symptoms of Parkinsons disease usually develop gradually, starting off as a small tremor in your finger or a loss of smell; and advancing to  needing round the clock care and potentially being bedridden. The is currently no cure for Parkinsons disease.

In return for your kind donations, I plan on running the 83miles of the Wealdway in one go. The Wealdway is a long distance footpath in  south-east England which makes its way though three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and which connects the Thames Estuary at Gravesend with the English Channel in Eastbourne. The planned date for the event is 17th January 2022. This gives plenty of time to build up mileage, without risking injury. Updates will be posted on my instagram Titles_15.

To finish off I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my story. Of your donations: £48 funds a clinical researcher for 2 hours, £20 funds an hour of care from a specialist Parkinson's nurse and £10 pays for 2 weeks of nutrients to grow brain cells in the lab for research. Therefore any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks again,

Adam
