We fund pioneering research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease

Story

On 28 October me and 66 other runners supporting Fight for Sight will be running the Run to the Beat Half Marathon in Greenwich.  The reason I decided to do this is:

Twelve year old Tommy Salisbury has Choroideremia, which it is a rare inherited eye disorder that causes progressive sight loss. This genetic condition is passed through families by the X-linked pattern of inheritance and so the condition almost exclusively affects males. Those with choroideremia tend to develop night blindness in their teens, which progresses to tunnel vision and blindness 20 to 30 years after the onset.“

'Thanks to the Tommy Salisbury Choroideremia Fund set up by Emma Salisbury in 2005 research into new treatments for Choroideremia has been greatly enhanced.  Following the worlds first clinical trial they hope to see direct benefits for patients, stopping the progression for Tommy and others suffering with this condition.

Over the last few years the Tommy Salisbury Choroideremia Committee has raised approximately £280,000 for research into Choroideremia.  The Salisbury family and friends organise many different fundraising events throughout the year including coffee mornings, golf days, discos and charity dinners as well as sponsored runs, bike rides, walks etc.

Please help me to support this amazing charity and sponsor me.
