Topcliffe Weir at the bottom of the River Swale is a major barrier to the free movement of all species of fish. It is a very high priority for the Environment Agency (EA) to provide a suitable fish pass. The Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust has carried some preliminary design work and liaison with interested parties. Please give some money no matter how small to get this project off the ground. Salmon, barbel, eel, lamprey and all species of coarse fish will be able to move upstream into the River Swale once a suitable fish pass is built. The scheme will cost several hundred thousand pounds to complete but we are confident that local landowners and possibly the EA will find some money if we can make a good start.
Please help if you can.
