We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Commencing on the 13th April 2012, we, Peter Foulkes and Jon Brookbanks, will embark on a 9 month round-the-world motorcycle adventure in order to raise money for Cancer Research.

The trip will begin in Chandlers Ford UK, riding out of Pete's garage, where detailed bike preparation is currently underway. Heading East, the first part of the journey will take us through Europe, Russia, and Mongolia, following a similar route to that taken by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman in the Long Way Round documentary. Depending on circumstances at the time, we will then make a decision as to whether we tackle the Road of Bones through Siberia to reach Magadan, or cross into South Korea, where we will ship the bikes to Anchorage and begin the second part of our journey from Alaska to Argentina. The final destination being Ushuaia, commonly regarded as the southernmost city in the world. During this adventure we will pass through 24 different countries, covering approximately 25,000 miles in just under 9 months.

Unlike Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, we will not have an extensive backup crew, and we will be riding small lightweight (Suzuki DRZ 400S) off-road style motorcycles, similar to that used by Austin Vince and co. in Mondo Enduro. Many of the countries we pass through are undeveloped, without proper roads if any at all, having beautiful yet severe terrain and punishing climates. With a very limited budget we will be living on a shoe string, camping in the wilderness and making the most of any good will gestures we receive from kind people we meet along the way. Despite being very excited, we are also apprehensive and under no-illusion that this epic adventure will challenge our view of the world and also test our physical endurance. Completing the mission would be a great achievement, the trip of a lifetime, and will hopefully help contribute funds and raise awareness towards the great work Cancer Research are doing.

The response and support we have had so far towards the preparation of the trip and the motorcycles has been amazing, and we are extremely grateful to all of our sponsors, without whom this trip would not be possible. To follow our adventure, and see a list of the support we have been given, please visit our website using the link below, where we plan to keep a diary and post unforgettable photography along the way.

It goes without saying that all of your donations will go directly to Cancer Research, and will not be used to fund our trip. Every little counts, so please donate as little or as much as you can.

Many thanks in advance for your donations,
