In August, I will be cycling around Wales with the support of my wife Bin and two of my sons, Alex and Seb. It'll be in aid of Mind Cymru, a charity that offers advice and support to empower anyone with a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. The Tour of Wales will test both my physical and mental capacity and will see me cycle around the beautiful perimeter of Wales, completing 1000 kilometres with 14,000 metres of hill climbing in 6 days!

Mental health is a matter that is close to my heart for two reasons. Earlier this year, some very dear friends of mine lost their son Lewis who sadly took his own life. He was a very pleasant, gentle and charming young man who had been struggling with mental health issues for some time. Lewis will be dearly missed by his close family and friends.

Being the Managing Director of a company that looks after vulnerable adults with mental health issues, it has given me great insight into how much of an impact mental health difficulties can have on everyday life. Sharing these problems with others is immensely helpful and will help destigmatize the issues we all face at different periods of our lives.

Being a keen cyclist myself and knowing the benefits exercise can have on mental health, I thought this was the perfect challenge to try and raise more awareness.

On August 14th, I will be setting off on my hilly exploration from the capital city, Cardiff where some of my friends will be joining me at various stages of the trip for support. The route will take me in a clockwise direction hugging the  Welsh coastline visiting some iconic places like the Gower Peninsula, St Davids, Aberystwyth, Caernarfon and Abersoch. I will then be returning through mid-Wales visiting towns including Builth Wells and Brecon before returning back to Cardiff on August 21st.
