We are colleagues who work at Leigh CID,Greater Manchester Police. Our workload often leads to us work late and we led each other astray with a cheeky kebab or box of chocolates to keep going!

However, we would then bemoan wanting to be fitter so Lynsey came up with the idea of running the Liverpool half marathon together. For those who know us then Lee and I just do as Lynsey says as does her husband Andy. We all know our place so all agreed to run!!

It is the first time any of us have run a half marathon. So we thought this would create a great sponsorship opportunity with families,friends and colleagues.

We discussed charitable causes and wanted a charity which benefitted the Police family. There are so many great causes but we agreed on St George's Police Childrens Trust.

The St George’s Police Children Trust provides support of a financial nature to children and young people whose police officer parent has either lost their life or had an injury/illness, whilst on or off duty, preventing them from being able to work.

Police officers are very often the first responders to serious accidents and dangerous incidents, which can sometimes result in the unthinkable happening. While no amount of money can replace a parent, support from the Charity can provide a degree of financial certainly in difficult times and is provided for on or off duty incidents. 

The three of us have lost colleagues both on and off duty and it leaves the children needing so much support and this charity ensures they are given opportunities fulfil their potential in times of such adversary. You also  only have to be reminded of the high profile murders of Nicola and Fiona within GMP and Dave Phillips and Neil Doyle within Merseyside to appreciate the heightened danger Police officers now face.
