Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page, We (Harry Dunk, Jacob Robertson and Lawrence Matthews) will be riding over 300 miles to Wembley Stadium from Blundell Park and back, over 4 days in March 2019.
This charity event was founded upon the idea that the most awful of scenarios in which ourselves and many other have faced, can happen to anyone. This realisation taught us that life is far too short and when the worst arises, one should be supported in the most effective ways, hence why we have chosen to support CLIC Sargent.
CLIC Sargent offers all young people aged 16 to 24 an initial grant to help deal with the costs a cancer diagnosis can bring, as well as information about diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
This magnificent charity helped our lifelong friend, Oliver James Turner. In February 2017 Oliver was diagnosed with Lymphoma which came as a harrowing shock to ourselves and his family. The progression of his cancer was overwhelmingly volatile, with drugs and procedures working initially, yet resulting in deterioration it meant that the ordeal was upsetting for himself and his family as he bravely fought the illness. CLIC Sargent thankfully ensured comfort whilst managing his illness, ensuring his mother was housed during the extensive hospital periods, whilst also ensuring maximum comfort in private rooms for Oliver. The looming fear that was caused by this news shook so many of us who were associated with Oliver, no matter the relationship we had. Such a wonderful young man, with a huge heart that cared for everybody and literally never showed weakness of spite throughout his life. Such a prolifically lovely soul was taken in August 2017, when Oliver James Turner sadly passed away surrounded by his loved ones, aged only 20 years old. Oliver's case shows how tragedy can be inflicted upon the kindest of people at the most unexpected times, thus why we are aiming to raise as much as possible, hoping to ensure a better life for those who fall victim to the horrific nature of cancer among young people.
Again, thank you for reading this and we hope you donate what you can afford, in order to aid the brilliant work that CLIC Sargent conduct, and help young people where possible.
