Truro School Boarding Community 'Challenge 75'
Fundraising for NHS Charities Together
Story
With the long bank holiday weekend, an annual favourite in
the Truro School boarding community, fast approaching, we wanted to reach out and reconnect with the boarders and their families who we are missing terribly.
Over the years, it has become customary for us to spend the
long May Bank Holiday weekend, the only bank holiday weekend to fall in term time, downing tools and coming together as a community. This coming weekend was due to consist of us enjoying a day out at Flambards, Cornwall’s best day of the week and only ‘theme’ park, a joint BBQ and a charity challenge. Although circumstance, and distance, keep us apart this year we are keen to continue with our plan.
Truro School, along with all schools up and down the country, closed its classroom doors and took up remote teaching, on Friday 20th March, with the very last of our boarders departing on Saturday 28th. Since then Pentreve, Poltisco, Malvern and Trennick have remained eerily empty; the resident staff that live on site and the broader boarding staff team are missing the buzz that comes with having full houses and hope that taking part in the challenge will bring a sense of togetherness and distraction whilst also raising money for a good cause.
With seventy-five boarders on the school roll at February half term, we have decided to dub this charity challenge ‘Challenge 75’ and aim
to raise as much money for the NHS, who are doing a tremendous job on the Coronavirus front line, as possible. Whether it be an individual challenge to complete 75 press-ups, a family challenge to bake 75 cupcakes for a local nursing home, or a bigger group challenge to walk, run or cycle 75 kilometres or miles over the three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) we hope that everyone can set themselves a goal and join in.
