Story

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter, long, long ago..
.

Due to the current economic climate, in what should be a season of joy as we approach Christmastime, we know that for many it will be a season of sorrow. The Salvation Army in Newcastle wants to do all that it can to bring some sense of comfort and hope to those who will struggle over the winter months.

By late November this year, it is hoped, that we will finally be able to relocate to our new purpose-built worship and community centre, which is nearing the end of its construction, in the Cowgate / Fenham area of the City.

There, in addition to our Annual Christmas Toy & Gift Appeal, we hope to be able to open our doors offering a warm space into which members of the local community can come and receive not only a warm welcome and friendly conversation, with some of our regular members, but enjoy some hot refreshments too.

Christina Rossetti who wrote the words to the popular carol 'In The Bleak Midwinter' ponders in the final verse,

What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb
If I were a wise man, I would do my part
Yet what I can, I give Him, give my heart

What can we give this Christmas? Will you partner with us in bringing tidings of comfort and joy to those who are suffering, those who are struggling? Each financial gift - no matter how small will mean so much, not least to those who will benefit from it. Together we really can make a difference.
