Hi As most of you know ,I am a captain on the tugs at portbury, almost two years ago Robin(my chief officer) and I lost our colleague friend and Engineer Kevin Jackman in a tragic accident whilst
working on board our tug.
Kevin was a typically proud welsh man who at every opportunity would talk about lovely beautiful Wales, he spent his time on board trying to teach both robin and I how to speak welsh alas I'mafraid he failed there, Robin is from southmead so most was lost in
translation but it became a challenge for him and he never stopped trying .
In between his engineering duties ,Kevin would discuss with me his true passion SWANSEA CITY fc and the demise of (as Kevin put it )"car crash"Cardiff" .On the day Swansea somehow beat West ham he didn't hold back either I got it both barrels so to speak and deservedly so. It will come as no surprise to note he was very passionate about the welsh miners and would roar if we brought up the subject of "Maggie Thatcher" or even dare to mention the "Tories". His sense of humour was a joy to beholdand im sure like anyone else who ever met Kevin you will all understand both Robin and myself miss him terribly.
"PMA Peter PMA" (positive mental attitude) will stay with
me for a long long time.
So I thought a nice way to remember Kevin and give something back to a charity close to all tugmen as we all work on the sea is to
complete a bicycle ride from West Hams new ground in Stratford all the way to the liberty stadium Swansea 233 MILES in total over 3 days .
I will be joined by my 6 friends all over 50yrs of age I can vouch for three of us never having visited a gym in our lives so this really is a challenge for all of us.
We will be starting our ride on the 19th October from the Olympic stadium 2017
finishing on Saturday 21st at the
liberty stadium.
The team is Peter Hancock, Scrags Tony Donkin Chris Williams Tim Brooks Tim Crisp and Chris Halliburton
