UNCLE Walks the Camino de Santiago 2018 · 11 October 2018

UNCLE supports the Hope for Children and Trinity orphanages in Nepal. This is our 13th year in operation as a charity, needing to raise over £20,000 a year to support the children and their carers. In addition we have raised over £70,000 to rebuild one of the orphanages.

Story

Paul Harris and Alan Bishop are two friends, now retired, who have grown up together and share an interest in Scouting and the outdoor life.

Paul is a trustee of the Charity UNCLE (which stands for Uplifting Nepal’s Children with Love and Education).

To recognise 10 years of operation for the charity Uncle, the intrepid duo is facing a new and even more difficult sponsored walk. After completing three island walks around The Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight and the Island of Jersey in successive years 2015-17, they are facing their biggest challenge yet by tackling the full 483 miles of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. The walk will take approximately five weeks from the foothills of the Pyrenees to the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela and we hope to raise our biggest and best sponsorship total to date. Having raised a total exceeding five thousand pounds over three years we are seeking to double that in one year and make a total of ten thousand pounds to mark our ten year anniversary.

UNCLE supports two orphanages in Kathmandu, providing funds for the upkeep, education and medical costs of the orphans and their carers thereby uplifting the children of Nepal with love and education since 2008. We have just finished financing the rebuilding of one of the orphanages irreparably damaged by the earthquake of 2015. The children and carers of the second orphanage are currently seeking a new home having been asked to leave their rented accommodation. We face raised rents and removal costs. Every penny you donate to UNCLE will go to give the Nepali children practical support and a place to live. Please help. Thank you.
