It´s been a couple of years since I've run my last fundraising event. This year I'm participating in a Polar Adventure race and Climbing Expedition. Since that last expedition in Peru, two more of my family members have been victims of cancer, and they are currently fighting it... I'm determined to bring more awareness around the need for all of us to help defeating cancer in any possible way. My theory is that by supporting the largest organizations in the World on their research, together will defeat cancer. Please take your time to read through the amazing work Cancer Research UK is doing, and donate what you can, even if it's a small amount on money!

This year 2017 I'm racing and climbing virgin peaks in Greenland for Cancer Research UK because defeating cancer is yet a higher mountain to climb

"12K12D" my 2014 climbing challenge!

“Last summer I was fighting to get to the top of my first 7000m, Khan Tengri, The Lord of the Sky. Meanwhile my friend Gerard was fighting to defeat cerebral cancer. I could not get any higher than 500m when the mountain refused to let us climb. And my friend could not get any further than two weeks after he was diagnosed, since the illness was not treated at the right time. My uncle Verna, his brother Goyo and my god motherJulia were all at the same time fighting cancer, and today we can happily say they made it to the summit of what it is the highest mountain one can climb. My neighbor Juan is a warrior, someone like Reinhold Messner (the greatest climber in history). He is the person I know who has climbed more 8000s. Not those in the Himalayas, but the ones that are higher and must be climbed from a bed in a hospital room. He’s got frostbite several times, and he complains because he does not like the scars. But I think they are pretty cool considering the sort of battles he won. He is still descending from his last 8000, but we all know he’ll remain strong and will make it save back to Base Camp.

Alpamayo (5947 meters / 19,512 feet) is asteep (60 degrees), almost perfect pyramid of ice, one of a number of peaks that compose the Pukarahu massif, the northernmost massif of the Cordillera Blanca. Although smaller than many of its neighboring peaks, it is distinguished by its unusual formation and overwhelming beauty. It actually has two sharp summits, North and South, separated by a narrow corniced ridge.

Ever since it was first climbed in 1951, alpinists have been flocking to attempt its fluted Southwest Face. On July 1966, on the German magazine "Alpinismus", a photo made by American photographer Leigh Ortenburger, came together with an article resulting from an international survey among climbers and photographers, making the choice for Alpamayo as "The Most Beautiful Mountain in the World".

Many fledgling high altitude climbers consider this peak a culmination of their early climbing careers. Summit day consists of 457 meters (1,500 feet) of perfect two-tooled ice and neve climbing on a flawless fluted face. Less than half of the climbers coming to the BC make it to the top.

Alpamayo’s col camp is also an ideal high camp to attempt Quitaraju (6041 meters / 19,820 feet). Quitaraju’s North Face hosts another long alpine two-tool ice and neve route. While it is not quite as steep as Alpamayo, it is longer, boasting over 12 rope-lengths of ice climbing to its summit.

After climbing Alpamayo, I should have the efficiency necessary to complete this long route in a single push. My aim to climb these two 6000m peaks in 12 days, something that takes most of the climbers 20 days. Climbing in a light alpine style, a single rope formed by a local guide and me. This year I want to leave aside all the complexities of a heavy expedition to experience the beauty of the Santa Cruz valley in its purest alpine style.
