Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

On Sunday 3rd June 2018, I aim to jump out of a plane, 10,000 feet in the air and take part in a Tandem SkyDive! My goal for the year is to raise as much money and awareness for bereaved parents and the wonderful charity that supports people like us, Sands Lothians!

Our Story

In March last year we were surprised to find I was carrying our first little bundle of joy! It took us a while to realise what we were letting ourselves in for but soon loved the idea of becoming parents and a little family of our own.

On Wednesday 14th June, we went for our 20 week scan. We reached the ultrasound department, nervous, excited but worried it would reveal the sex of our baby when we hoped for a surprise! I rolled around on the bed chopping and changing my position for the nurse to obtain our baby's measurements...after 20 mins we were asked to go for a walk and come back in the hope he/she would be in a better position. On re-entering the ultrasound room we were met by 2 nurses this time..one we assumed to be better at getting the right measurements! After a further 30 mins of rolling around and thinking our baby was in a lazy position.. that soon changed by the news that actually our baby wasn't snuggled away and lying a tad awkward but in fact very, very sick. Our stomachs dropped, life completly changed in that one moment, dreams of 2 becoming 3 simply shattered!
Sadly through no reasoning or fault of our own, our baby was confirmed to have severe spina bifida to the point he/she would have very little to no life quality or expectancy! News that no parent-to-be wants to hear especially not half way through your pregnancy! After further scans and confirmations... we were left with the devastating decision to terminate our pregnancy. At no stage did we have any concerns, no hereditary issues or illnesses, no risks of any other condition.... this was literally just the card we had been dealt.
On Sunday 18th June 2017, we delivered a perfectly imperfect little boy who was simply too precious for this world 💙!

Times were tough and days were long but through the worst time of our lives, our shining star helped transform us into becoming better people, individually and as a couple. Stronger, together and partnered for the future! Not only did we fight to stay strong but we had help and support from a range of amazing people including Sands Lothian Charity.

A charity built by truly outstanding people, bereaved parents like ourselves, who understand every emotion and feeling we have been through and have been there, whatever the need may be!

My goal is to honour our little boy and all other shining stars that light up our beautiful big sky 🌟! For bereaved parents like ourselves who have been through similar or yet, worse! To make others stop and see that pregnancy and the birth of a healthy child is not a given.... its a privilege..... ITS A GIFT ❤! And most importantly to raise as much money and awareness for Sands Lothians so they can continue with the awesome work they do and carry on supporting families through tragic times and helping them see the light at the end, of what seems like, a very dark tunnel!

I ask you and anyone you know to stop and dig deep to pledge AS MUCH as you can afford and support me in my charitable event to MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND MAKE OUR BABIES COUNT! 💪🏼💙

Thank you for whatever contribution you can make, it means the world to us! V & D xx
