As you probably know, in November, I went on an inspirational trip to southern India. The main purpose of the trip was to visit an orphanage: Little Flower Mercy Home, that I have become involved with, through a friend, Robin Radley, who lives near me in Surrey.
Little Flower is part of a wider charity run by Robin, called CHIKS: Children's Homes in Kerala State. CHIKS supports 3 orphanages, with around 250 children in total.
Sophie, Angus and I spent 2 days at Little Flower in November and we were completely overwhelmed by the joy and affection of the children. On the surface, by our standards at any rate, it seems like these children have nothing. They don't really have any possessions, their living accommodation is very basic and it is a constant, relentless struggle to ensure that funds are there to cover the everyday essentials. Most of all, these children either do not have, or are separated from, their parents. But, despite these life circumstances, that are so very far removed from our own, these children are bubbling with life and enthusiasm and happiness. It was disarming to experience this totally transparent zest for life and sense of fun that shone out of their faces.
So, how could I approach Christmas and not send out a little appeal to all my lovely friends, to raise a bit of money for them?
If you feel you could spare a little and would like contribute to a Christmas collection for CHIKS, I have done the "modern thing" and set up a Just Giving page. ALL money collected will go directly to the CHIKS bank account, managed by Robin, who spends every single penny (or rather rupee!) on improving the lives of these children.
Thank you! xxxxx
