Story
On the 24th February 2010 a week before Adelaides daughter Millies first birthday, Millie cardiac arrested out of hospital from a rare genetic cardiac condition, she was rushed to Southampton hospital and a week later taken up to ocean ward.
A ward that there family already knew from When Adelaide had spent on and of for the first 8 years of her life when she her self was medically unstable from a life threatening Heart condition .
They were now admitting her seriously ill baby . After a very uncertain 10 weeks Millie was medically stable enough to be discharged home , with a internal cardiac defibrillator and lots of medicine . But it didn’t end there millie was a regular patient for many months after as her heart rhythm became unstable often and the defibrillator had to shock her, one day it shocked her 18 times in a row . In July 2010 Millie was put onto a medication that kept her stable and it still does its job now nearly 11 years later .
Millies had 4 broken defibrillator leads in the first 7 years of having a defibrillator and all caused long hospital stays , one was over Christmas. When Millie was 8 they placed an adult defibrillator into her chest and so far it has been very successful.
Over the last nearly 12 years millie has spent so much time on ocean ward and can be admitted back at anytime. The amazing charity families of ocean ward have supported there family from the very start , coffee mornings , days out , helping with hospital costs and general support .
Adelaide and her friends George , Natalie , Sarah , Stacy and Sharon are going to walk or run a total of 500 miles between then in March , to hopefully raise some money for the charity to buy the essentials they need to make the children and families who use ocean ward , time on the ward a little bit easier well they go through some terrible experiences .
