Story

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page, Walk for Walton.

On 19th June 2021 we’ll be walking from Weybourne to Wymondham College in memory of the late Claire Walton (Kite). Claire was our head of house, sports teacher, netball coach and an all round Wymondham College legend!

The walk will certainly be a challenge as it’s approximately 34 miles from start to finish which will take us over 12 hours (and that’s without stops for snacks). There will be eight of us undertaking the challenge in Norfolk and 2 members of the team completing a 34 mile walk in Newcastle. We will fulfil the route by both road and footpath, so here’s hoping our navigation skills are up to scratch! We’ve picked Wymondham College as an end point as this is where we met Ms Walton and where she positively impacted upon all of our lives - so it seems appropriate to finish where it all began.

Following her diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND), we discussed undertaking a challenge to raise money in her honour for a charity of her choice. Claire chose the MND Association (MNDA), who supported her after her diagnosis. She was delighted to hear of our intentions and following her sad passing we are proud to be able to complete the challenge with her blessing and in her honour. We know she’ll be with us in spirit every step of the way.

We all share lots of fond memories of Claire, with Onesie Wednesday being just the start of them! Her ability to simultaneously take the Michael and join in with the banter whilst still being on hand with excellent life advice was truly unique. We’re sure there were moments when she wanted to knock our heads together (in fact we know there were, she mentioned it once or twice) but she always had our best interests at heart!

We’re incredibly grateful for all of your donations, no matter how big or small and we can’t wait to share with you how it goes! As we begin our training we’re starting to consider, will the bigger challenge be the walk itself or will it be not falling out along the way…? Stay tuned to find out!

Thank you, Libby, Emily, Millie, Antonia, Trixie, Sundee, Tomi, Rosie, Hannah and Jess x
