Now, a little bit about myself......

My name is Maria Davey and I was born with Tetralogy of Fallots – four defects to the heart, present from birth.

My heart condition has resulted in me having to under go many operations as a child - first at 8 months old, then at 2 years old when I became critically ill, then full correction with open heart surgery at 5 years old.
I was never allowed to run around the playground with the other children and always felt “different” to others, especially with scars on my back and right down the middle of my chest.
However, upon reaching early adulthood, I started to appreciate the life that I had been given and wanted to give something back to those that had helped me survive.

My fundraising days for the Britsh Heart Foundation started in 2005 when I was 24, as this was the year that I was told that I needed my next operation and that was for a stent to be inserted into an artery, to enhance the blood flow to my heart.

The most recent operation was in 2009, where I had to have a pulmanory valve replacement, which again, was through open heart surgery.  I shall need further operations in the future, but until then, shall live my life in the best way that I can.

Over the years, I have organised and participated in many sporting events to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.
This has included:
* Cornish coastal walk (5 miles)
* Running a Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
* Swimming the distance of the English Channel (22 miles)
* Oragnised cycle event (50 miles)

This had led me now wanting to do something bigger and better...
John O Groats to Land's End (874 miles)

Wouldn't it be great to be able to say that you have covered the distance of the United Kingdom! Well you can!
Why not come along this journey with me and take part in...
Walk to World Heart Day.
This can be completed by walking, running, swimming or cycling the miles...Your choice, your journey, your achievement.

We shall all be able to support each other and record our progress along the way, even if you sign up as an indidual or as a team, we are in this together and let's see how many miles we can complete and more importantly, how many pennies we can raise for the British Heart Foundation.

The proposed date to complete this challenge is by 29th September 2018, on National World Heart Day.  For those that are interested, or live in the South West, I shall be challenging myself to cross the finish line by cycling the last 10 miles from Penzance to Land's End.  Please let me know if this is something that you would be interested in also.
