We are Watoto and we exist to rescue, raise and rebuild

Charity Registration No. 1090810

Watoto is a family made up of ordinary people around the world working together to ensure the forgotten have a place to belong. Working alongside Africa’s most vulnerable, our aim is to rescue individuals and raise each as a leader in his or her sphere of life, so that they in turn, will rebuild the nation.

Our vision is to celebrate Christ and care for community. Caring for our community is not only about providing the most marginalised with water, food, clothes and shelter, but also about empowering them to be able to provide for themselves. Putting food in their hands is critical, but providing the tools in their hands to become self-sustainable leaves an impact for generations to come.

To fulfill this aim, Watoto is birthing a new sustainability project: a farm and training centre providing practical education and technical business training to our young adults, while at the same time providing an economically sustainable food supply for the women and children in our care and nearby communities.

The sustainable farm is being built on a 400 acre plot of land called 'BOBI' outside of Gulu, Northern Uganda. It incorporates classrooms, accommodation and farm infrastructure to provide the platform upon which both theory and practical knowledge can be taught.

Graduates will be trained in general agriculture and one of three specialty areas: plant sciences; animal sciences or agribusiness. Ultimately our goal is to launch leaders into Uganda's agricultural and food sector, positively influence the development of agricultural policy and see the nation transformed.

With the support of our friends and partners across the UK, we are aiming to raise £7,763 needed for a water pump at this new sustainable farm and training centre. This water pump will not only provide safe running water for the students, teachers, workers and livestock living at the farm, but importantly for crop irrigation as well. The crops we produce will provide an economically sustainable food supply for the women and children in Watoto's care and nearby communities.
