Story
The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, often within 24 hours.
My Rail Enforcement Team Leaders (Tom Harvey, Tom Stovell and Dillon Xerxes) and I had a moment of madness, as we often do, and considered what we could do to raise money for our chosen charity, the
Samaritans. We wanted to do something memorable, challenging and ultimately rewarding, whilst also raising awareness about the fabulous work the Samaritans do in supporting vulnerable people with various mental health issues.
In fact The Samaritans conducted a recent survey, highlighting that two in five (41%) men in England, Scotland and Wales aged 20-59 do not seek support when they need to, because they prefer to solve their own problems. Our team know this from their own personal experiences and we wanted to share this message too.
In our line of work, we often come across vulnerable people on our rail network, many of whom sadly want to end their lives. Having the support of the Samaritans in terms of the training they provide, allows our Officers to be as prepared as they can be when dealing with challenging situations and to potentially save lives.
The Three Peaks Challenge is one of the most difficult hiking challenges in the UK and we are determined to complete it within 24 hours. Please support us by donating generously to help us support a great charity.
Thank You!
