October is a happy and sad month for me because it’s the month that my birthday falls in but it is also the month that I lost a twin brother. The last five years have been a rollercoaster of emotions and whilst I was initially running away from the grief (unintentionally) I have now learnt how to deal with and accept the loss of a twin brother mentally. Things will never be the same but what's important is that his legacy lives on through me. My brother wasn't any brother he was a special brother, he suffered severely from cerebral palsy. Although he had a life limiting condition he had a good quality of life and was loved very dearly. He brought an infinitive amount of laughter with him and put smiles on so many faces. This year I find myself away from home during what can be a challenging time for me as I have recently started an engineering apprenticeship with Network Rail. I feel it is the perfect time for me to start fundraising in memory of my dear brother. By fundraising for a charity that my brother was so close to it gives me the opportunity to turn losing him into a positive and will help me stay focused and get through these next few months. I have a fantastic support network and the other apprentices feel like family. I am very grateful for any support that is given to me whether it be through fundraising with me and taking part in the Coventry 10k, through supporting me with donations or offering me moral support. There are many children out there in less fortunate positions to me and you and I believe in running for those who cannot run. We can sometimes take for granted what we have that's why supporting children and young adults with physical and learning disabilities is our way of giving back. It’s our way of getting them that step closer to fulfilling their lives. I personally will be running the Coventry 10K with other Network Rail apprentices and colleagues in support of Diverse Abilities all donations will directly be going to Lily's place and children's services.
